Haroon Habib Kirmani

Summer 1982

Haroon Habib Kirmani was in NED MECH 80-81 batch. Haroon was a friendly, smart and kind person. He is best described by his friends who dedicated their words to how wonderful he was.

Haroon  and Ahmed Safi together launched the first student chapter of AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) in Pakistan at their time.

Arshad Abbasi was Haroon’s lab partner as their roll numbers were together. On the eventful day of his death, he had asked Arshad if he wanted a lift on his bike. There was a movie showing in the auditorium, “Moscow Olympics”. Arshad intended to watch that movie and Haroon went his way home. When Arshad came home at night from a wedding, he was given the sad news of Haroon’s death and he attended his funeral the same night. Regarding this incident, Arshad writes, “Those moments are still engraved in my memory as if they had happened few days ago.”

It is rightfully said that,

“It takes a minute to find a special person, an hour to appreciate them, and a day to love them, but it takes an entire lifetime to forget them.”

Another friend of Haroon, Wasif Malik was fortunate enough to have known him for five years. Their friendship and how Wasif saw Haroon is perfectly described by Wasif as follows:

“We were together in Cadet College Petaro for five years prior to joining NED. He was an accomplished petarian doing well in academics as well as sports and extracurricular activities. At that time Petaro had six houses where all the cadets lived. I was in Liaquat house and Haroon was in Mohammad Bin Qasim house; about a couple of minutes’ walk from my house. I used to visit his house often and hung out with friends including him. During the last year at Petaro (12th grade), he was the group captain (Junior Under Officer) of his house, which was the highest honor anyone could achieve to represent their house. A handsome person, Haroon liveliness and jovial personality was contagious and would rub off on everyone around him. His voice was unique and full of life with a hint of mischief. I tremendously enjoyed his company. I visited his home often and enjoyed the company of his kind parents.”

We were getting ready to attend the first lecture of Engineering Mechanics I. We had just joined NED University of Engineering and everyone was excited about attending the classes and embark upon that learning highway upon which we had to travel for next few years. Class was settling down. We had already been the victims of the First-Year-Fools tradition and were cautious of the lecturers lest they turn out to be senior students of the department. Sitting on our one armed school chair I put my bag pack on the side and took out my note taking register. Opened up the first page and wrote the heading, in what later our friend Arshad Abbasi named as “Khat-e bay tuka” (خط ِ بے تُکا), a stylish “Mehcanix.”

“Why are you trying to be American? Why not remain original?” said the guy sitting next to me. “Excuse me?” I said and initiated my first dialogue with Haroon Habib Kirmani. He looked like a Fauji from his style and attire. Very orderly and somewhat commanding. Smiling at me he said, “Bhai sahib, this is not how we write Mechanics, do we?” Thus opened up his patriotic side to me which I kept witnessing till the end of his tenure in this mortal world.

Haroon was very jolly and happy-go-lucky type person. Making friends with him was not difficult at all. For me it was instant friendship with him just add smiles. Our interaction was off and on as he already had a group of Petarian alumni to hang around with. Still whenever he found time we discussed literature, religion and many other topics over the course of later semesters.

Some of us along with senior students,  founded the first branch of American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics at NED under the patronage of our teacher Mr. Usman Ghani sahib. We had an election for the organization and Haroon became the Treasurer. Being in the executive committe, I got a chance to be with him more due to the extra-curricular activities related to AIAA. Mr. Usman Ghani paired me up with him on a study project which was supposed to end in fabrication of an aerodynamic test apparatus. We had to work overtime for that.

We used to stay after the classes to study the prescribed book and try to figure out how we were going to fabricate the apparatus. This was the time when Haroon bought his Honda CD-70 motorbike. He was always bragging about the goodness of this particular model and that how it had made life easier for him. The whole city was accessible to him with no more waiting at the bus stops. All of us friends used to make fun of him for his love for this bike. I told him that we did not have to stay after the classes anymore because he could ride his Honda to my home in the evening. He would get annoyed and say that having a bike did not mean that he should be taken advantage of! We would laugh at his witty puns and double meaning sentences.

Haroon was an avid reader of Urdu and English poetry. He would discuss poetry with me as he knew my liking for the subject. Once he mentioned a verse “I live because you love me! I’ll die they day you’d stop loving me.” I do not remember whose verse was it but he discussed this simple line in depth. Later, one day he came running to me during a break and shouted, “Yaar Ahmad – daekh Ghalib kyaa keh gayaa hai… My God… zaraa sun –

Jaatay hu’ay kehtay ho Qayamat ko milaeN gay
Kyaa Khoob Qayamat ka hai goyaa ko’ee din aur?”

جاتے ہؤے کہتے ہو قیامت کو ملیں گے
کیا خوب، قیامت کا ہے گویا کوئی دن اور

And we discussed this couplet in detail… this was from an obituary ghazal that Ghalib had written for his nephew who had died young. But this couplet somehow struck Haroon hard and I have not seen anyone so much moved by this couplet as him yet. This just made that ghazal moving for me for the rest of my life too.

It was that fateful afternoon when we had just finished classes and Haroon did not want to stay over for the extra study time. He was trying to start his motorbike outside the Gas Dynamics Lab. Apparently there was some problem and the bike wouldn’t start. Me and some other friends started making fun of his incredible bike. He was fuming more than the silencer on his bike. Finally he was able to get it started and revved up the machine loudly to drown our laughters in it. He mumbled something and turned his bike with engine revving loudly and sped away…

I was at home that afternoon when our friends Saleh and Khwaja Aftab came to the door. They broke the bad news to me slowly… Ahmad, Haroon was in an accident a couple of hour ago… I felt as if something hit me hard… So.. how is he … which hospital… is he OK… not too much injured is he? Their response was, Ahmad – Haroon is no more…

I do not know how we got to his home… met his parents to whom he was the only offspring… offered Janaza prayers, buried him in the cemetery… it is all like a hazy dream… a dream from which you want to wake up thanking Allah that it was just a dream. No, not in this case. This was reality and we had to accept it from our creator. Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Raje’oon… We are from Him and to Him we have to return. Sab’r was now the only thing we could ask and hope for from our Lord.

ہاں اے فلک ِ پیر، جوان تھا ابھی ہارون
کیا تیرا بگڑتا جو نہ مرتا کوئی دن اور

And you will never die our friend… because for that to happen, we would have to stop loving you and that won’t happen… ever!

Shabbir Hussain

Summer 1982

Shabbir Hussain was a classmate of MECH 80-81 batch. He died in an accident during the first semester at NED. A person can deal with only so much grief at once. With Haroon’s absence fresh in our minds, we had to witness the passing of yet another of our friends. As mentioned before, we expect the best from life, and even if we get some rough days, we still expect goodness and happiness. We weren’t prepared for any of these trials set to us. We grieved for Haroon, and we grieved for Shabbir. Shabbir Hussain was another of our classmates who lost his life in an accident that summer. Like Haroon, he had also bought a bike recently and met his death in an accident with a truck. The emotional wounds from Haroon’s death had barely started to heal when they were cut open afresh when Shabbir passed away.

Shabbir’s classmate Syed Amjad Ali Naqvi recalls, Shabbir was a great human being,  always ready to help others.  He was a very good Table Tennis player and my training partner. He always gave me great tips for improving the game. We used to practice hard for hours in the Gymnasium to prepare for NED team selection for the Inter University games. Unfortunately, he passed away just before the team trials. With his help, I made it to the team and that year NED reached the Finals against Punjab University for the first time.  Whenever I play Table Tennis I remember  him and the great times we had together.

Abu Athar

December 1984

NED UET MECH 80-81

Abu Athar was yet another person of good character worthy of respect. His goal in life was not limited to fulfillment of mortal wishes. Arshad Abbasi remembers the day when the class had their Metallurgy viva more famously known as Baba-e-Folad, was popular for asking ‘Kalimas’ and Islamic questions in his viva. He asked Abu Athar what if Baba doesn’t ask you for Kalimas? His answer was simple yet profound, “…they would benefit him in his afterlife”. A person whose thoughts and actions are pure and free of flaunting, surely he will get a great place in heaven.

We know that the feeling of déjà vu is difficult to get across. But there are certain events of our life which pertain to the past events. One such incident is engraved on the mind of Wasif Malik regarding Abu Athar. Abu Athar was a kind and friendly person, but he was fully himself when he was with his close friends. Wasif didn’t have much interaction with Athar, but whenever they did talk, Athar did so with tremendous kindness and respect. The scene he remembers is painted at the beach where out of fun and enjoyment, Athar’s friends had buried him deep in the sand such that only his smiling face was visible. The next time they buried him, they did it completely, and it was a little while later on his funeral. The realities of life are bitter and hard to forget. A scene which was to be remembered as a great memory of a day filled with enjoyment and ‘tafreeh’, triggered memories of his final resting place.

Rehan Ahmed was a Mechanical Engineer from NEW Batch MECH 80-81. He has four children, three boys and a girl.

Ahmad Safi ; wrote

I can share my memories of Rehan – he and I had a good three years brotherhood in which I learnt a lot… I saw him transform from an NSF guy to a disciple of hazrat Dr. Abdul Hai Saheb Khalifa majaz-e bae’at Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi Saheb… the transformation was incredible… I sometimes think why I could not change like him… I guess I never had the courage… so I stay at the sidelines and would not play in the outfield….

Living in the Jamshaid Road (New Town) area, I was fortunate to be acquaintance with many NEDians from Martin, Clayton, Jahangir Road and PIB Colony Area. These middle class Government junior officers  colonies were the first migrants from Northern India especially Dehli.   I came to know Tariq as a talented hockey player in NED. He was my batch mate and I used to be always admire him for his extraordinary hockey talent. He was goal keeper. On his motorbike (always clean and shining) he look like a dashing Pakistani Movie hero. I never learned to drive bike or car during my NED days and was dependent upon Tariq, Shahid Ahmed and Amir Ali for rides. I always remember how Tariq would fight me for not giving him my notes before Masood. My friend REST IN PEACE, Aameen. SOHAIL

Many might not know that the name “Mechlite” was proposed by SMA Tariq and was eventually selected. He was rewarded too I remember for suggesting that name…..He will be missed..

I am sure, many of us  like myself, must have a fond memory about our Beloved SMA Tariq. He was a person who made everyone smile no matter how tense the situation was, during exams, vivas, or be it any other occasion. He will be greatly missed.

One suggestion to all. Can we all establish a foundation or a trust wherein we all contribute  on a monthly or a yearly basis  and the funds that are collected can be utilized to support the bereaved family and the next to kin in such tragic events.  may be we can take care of tuition fees, shadi expenses, house hold requirements etc .    Yousuf Buhriwala (2012)

Friends, Tariq’s moving to eternal life is the 6th of our friend (Haroon, Shabbir, Abu Ather, Waqar, Rehan and now Tariq). Our time is also coming close. We must start thinking about it if not have started already. We must start doing the right thing that should be counted as Sadaqa Jarriyah. I am sure that most of us are already doing that, but we should also do something for our friends/colleagues with whom we spent number of years. Arshad Abbasi (2012)

Tariq’s family is in Qatar. There are two kids; One may have completed O level and other in grade 9.He will be buried in Qatar on saturday. Thanks to Khalid for call and letting me know about his death.I called and talked to his family. At the time of his death he asked his family member to forgive him, pray surah yaseen for him, then kalama. Then he passed away. I am in touch with his family ..  his daughter use to update me every other days.I talked to him last weekend. I talked to him on skype as he want to see me. He was very upset and still saying alhamdullilah I am fine. I talked to him about 30 mins then he tired. He asked me do I have contacts on mech 80 forum… I said yes. He asked me to ask every one to forgive him. He was very good person. He always use to help others to his best. Allah mughfarat him — ameeen. Wassaf (2012).

دو دن ہو گئے تھے ای میل نہیں دیکھی تھی آج موقع ملا جی میل پر جاتے جاتے دل دھڑک رہا تھا اور پہلی میل پر نظر پڑی تو وہی خبر تھی جس کا اندیشہ دل میں تھا۰۰۰

اللہ ہمارے بھائی صالح کو اپنی رحمت کے سائے میں رکھے، اس کی مغفرت فرمائے اور اس کے درجات جنت الفردوس میں بلند کرے۔ آمین۔ بہت کم لوگ ہوتے ہیں جو اسم با مسمّیٰ ہوں یعنی جو اپنے نام پر پورے اُترتے ہوں۔ صالح نے صالح ہونے کا ثبوت دیا اور جاتے جاتے بھی ہم سب کو بہت کچھ سکھا گیا۔ اللہ اس کی جزا بھی اُسے دے۔

صالح کا مسکراتا چہرہ ہمیشہ نظر میں رہے گا اور مجھے یقین ہے وہ وہاں بھی مسکرا رہا ہوگا اور روزِ جزا بھی مسکراتا ہؤا ملے گا۔ اس کا چلے جانا اللہ کی رضا ہے جس میں ہم سب کو راضی رہنا ہے مگر پھر بھی دل کرتا ہے صالح  مل جائے تو ضرور پوچھوں ع

Yes sad day indeed. I did not meet him after we graduated and remember him as in my memory, heard from those who met him recently that they were shocked. We all pray that allah makes every step “Asan” for him. Jawaid Abdullah

Ibraiz Naeem (June 4th, 2020)

Today we lost yet another of our friends. It’s a common saying that at and near 60 one should not be surprised if anyone dies. I am not sure about this. As when I see 90 years younger person on the road, driving with their significant one, I feel that 60 is a young age. I have not known Ebraiz personally, it was difficult to know everyone in a  180 students strong class. However, I do remember him during our last year at NED. He was a shy, soft-spoken, and very polite mannered person.  I am sure that there are several colleagues who know him personally and below are some of the comments they wrote on our WhatsApp group. May Allah grants Ebraiz Naeem a place in heaven, may Allah forgive all his sins and may he get the blessings of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Aakhra. Aameen.

ابریز نعیم ہمیشہ یاد رہےگا۔۔ بہت کوشش کی تھی ڈھونڈنے کی جب کسی نے بتایا تھا کہ وہ شاید لاھور میں رہتا اہے۔۔۔ یونیورسٹی کا دور یاد آگیا جب ہم چند دوستوں نے پلان بنا کر کراچی میں انڈسٹریل وزٹس کرنے شروع کیے تھے۔ میں امجد ریحان اور ابریز تو مجھے گروپ میں یاد ہیں شاید ایک آدھ دوست اور بھی شامل رہا ہو۔۔۔ چھتیس سال پرانی بات ہوئی۔۔۔ ہم انڈسٹری میں جان پہچان نکالتے تھے اور وذٹ کرنے پہنچ جاتے تھے۔ سوئی گیس کا پلانٹ اور فلپس کی فیکٹری تو مجھےبیاد ہیں اور شپ یارڈ میں میرے ایک خالو مرحوم ایم ڈی ہوتے تھے۔۔۔ لنچ وغیرہ بھی کرایا گیا اور بہت تفصیل سے تمام شاپس دکھائی گئیں۔ بہت لطف بھی آتا تھا اور معلومات میں بھی اضافہ ہوتا تھا۔ ابریز اس سلسلے میں یوں یاد رہے گا کہ ہم سب اس دور میں پیدل ہوتے تھے اور ابریز نے ٹرانسپورٹ رضاکارانہ طور پر پیش کردی تھی خود ہمیں ڈرائیو کر کے لے جاتا تھا اور کبھی پٹرول وغیرہ کی بات نہیں کی اور جب اس نے نہیں کی تو ہم کاہے کو کرتے۔ بس ایک شکایت رہتی تھی کہ وہ ہمیں لانے لے جانے کے لیے سوزوکی پک اپ ٹرک لاتا تھا جس کے ڈالے پر ترپال کا کور تھا اور دو بنچیں لگی ہوئی تھیں۔۔۔ یہ تو آپ سب جانتے ہیں کہ سوزوکی اچھلتی کتنا ہے۔۔۔ اور پھر اس دور کی سڑکیں۔۔۔ بس منزل پر پہنچتے پہنچتے سارے جسم کی چولیں ہل جاتی تھیں اور بھوک ایسی چمک جاتی تھی کہ انڈسٹری کے بارے میں دل سے جو سوال نکلتا تھا وہ یہی ہوتا تھا، لنچ کرائیں گے جناب؟؟؟ اس سفر کا دوسرا بھیانک رخ زہریلی گیس تھی۔۔۔ بقول ریحان بھائی مرحوم کے، اس پک اپ ٹرک کی فلوئیڈ فلو ڈیزائننگ ٹھیک نہ تھی۔۔۔ سائیلنسر سے برآمد ہونے والی ساری کی ساری کاربن مونوآکسائیڈ ساری ڈالے کے اندر آ بھرتی تھی۔۔۔ نتیجہ یہ ہوتا تھا کہ ہم سب کی آنکھیں سرخ، آنسو اور کھانسی مسلسل جاری ہو جاتے تھے۔ باری باری ہم باہر کی طرف منہہ کر کے گہرے گہرے سانس لیا کرتے تھے کہ کچھ آکسیجن پکڑ کر پھیپھڑوں میں کاربن مونوآکسائیڈ کا تناسب کم کر سکیں۔ ابریز کے ساتھ اگلی سیٹ پر بیٹھنے پر جھگڑا ہوتا تھا۔۔۔ فرسٹ کم فرسٹ سروڈ والا معاملہ رہتا تھا۔ منزل پر پہنچ کر بہت دیر تک اندر داخل ہونے سے قبل اپنا حلیہ اور سانس بحال کرنا پڑتا تھا۔۔۔ پھر بھی میزبان یہی سمجھتا رہا ہو گا کہ وزٹ سے پہلے کسی کا پرسہ دے کر آ رہے ہیں۔۔۔
ہمیں سفر کا یہ حصہ برا لگتا تھا مگر ابریز کے لیے سب سے برا وقت وہ ہوتا تھا جب کوئی سینئیر میزبان اس سے پوچھتا تھا آپ ان کے ٹیچر ہیں؟؟؟ ہم لوگوں کی ہنسی چھوٹتی نہیں تھی تو کم از کم سینے میں گھٹ کر ضرور رہ جاتی تھی اور پھر واپسی کے سفر میں وہ جز بز ہوتا رہتا اور ہم سب قہقہے لگاتے رہتے۔۔۔ پھر بالآخر وہ بھی ہنس ہی پڑتا تھا۔ اللہ ہمارے بھائی کو جنت کے باغات میں ہنستا بستا رکھے۔۔۔
آخری دور میں سنا ہے کہ وہ بہت مذہبی ہو گیا تھا۔۔۔یقیناً اس نے اپنے استدلال سے اللہ کو ڈھونڈ لیا ہو گا۔۔۔ مجھے اس کی سہیل فاضل عثمانی صاحب کے ساتھ بحث یاد ہے جس میں وہ اللہ کے وجود کا ثبوت مانگتا تھا اور عثمانی صاحب زچ ہو رہے رھے تھے کیونکہ سوال ابریز کے ہوں تو جواب دینا یا مطمئن کرنا بہت مشکل تھا۔۔۔ مجھے یاد ہے کلاس ہی میں یا اس کے بعد میں نے اس سے پوچھا کیا ایٹم کا وجود ہے۔۔۔ اس نے جواب دیا کیوں نہیں ہماری کیمسٹری اس پر منحصر ہے۔۔۔ پھر میں نے پوچھا اور الیکٹران پروٹان اور نیوٹران کے بارے میں کیا خیال ہے۔۔۔ تو اس نے کہا تم بہت پیچھے ہو اور دس پانچ ایٹمی ذرّات اور بتا دیے جن کا میرے اچھوں کو بھی علم نہ تھا ۔۔۔ میں نے پوچھا، آپ نے یا کسی نے انہیں دیکھا ہے؟ سوچ میں پڑا پھر کہنے لگا نہیں مگر تجربات سے اندازہ ہوتا ہے جیسے ردرفورڈ کا گولڈ فوائل ایکسپیریمنٹ جس اے نیوکلئیس میں پروٹان کی موجودگی کا پتہ چلا وغیرہ۔ اس پر میں نے کہا دیکھا نہیں مگر تجربات اور مشاہدات نے ثابت کیا نا کہ یہ سب پارٹیکلز موجود ہیں۔۔۔ بس ایسے ہی دنیا اور کائنات میں سب مظاہر اسی کی موجودگی کا پتہ دے رہے ہیں بس نتائج اخذ کرنے کی بات ہے۔۔۔ وہ اس رقز خاموش ہو کر چلا گیا تھا۔۔۔ مجھے علم نہیں کہ اس کا مذہبی رویہ اس کے بعد کیا رہا کیونکہ میں تجسس نہیں رکھتا تھا مگر اس کے بعد اس نے عثمانی صاحب کو زچ کرنا چھوڑ دیا تھا۔۔۔ مجھے یقین ہے کہ وہ اگر دین کی طرف آیا تھا تو خصوصی ہدایت پا کر آیا ہوگا۔۔۔ ایسے بندے شاید دنیا کی سمجھ میں بھی نہیں آتے اور وہ بھی مِس فٹ ہی ہو جاتے ہیں۔۔۔ لیکن اب وہ جنت میں گیا ہے مجھے یقین ہے وہاں بالکل فٹ ہوگا ہمارا یار۔۔۔ اللہ وہاں اس کے درجات بلند کرے آمی

This is a surprise to me. I vividly remember Anees Bhai. I used to tease another ATI brother, Arif Jan Muhammad almost on a daily basis. Anees Bhai would just smile and ignore the exchanges I had with Arif. Also Anees Bhai was very particular about making wudu and would take at least twice as much of time to complete his wudu. Out of curiosity I once asked why did he take unusually long time to make wudu. He explained about the fard in wudu and he wanted to make sure that his wudu was valid. May Allah grant him highest place in Jannat. Curious, when did he pass away?

Can not recall Tariq (my senior moment), what was his last name. Well, our time is approaching fast too!!!

Javed and I grew up in the same neighborhood in Nazimabad no. 3. We went together to the same school and same class. We played together hockey at school. His father (may Allah grant him maghfira) was a very kind man and i got to know him well. His current residence is just walking distance to my parent’s house. Javed was a very family-oriented person. Very close to his siblings and not to mention, very good friend to all of us. I was fortunate enough to meet him and his son in Oct this year. Very sad and unbelievable news. This is perhaps the greatest tragedy that has fallen on our group. We should all take lessons that Javed taught us the way he left us. Please do realize that in the age bracket we are in, we should all have our medical examination done at least twice a year. Hope many of us are religiously having their examination regularly and if some or not doing it, please get it done for javed’s sake and show him our love for him. In this time and age ignoring or overlooking our own health is a crime to oneself, one’s family and friends. Please take it seriously and pledge to Javed and our other departed friends that we will not be ignorant knowingly or unknowingly….

He and his bicycle. What were the days! His whole family was so simple and humble. I recall several conversations with his father during my visits to his home. I always thought to have such modesty. Looking into me now, I don’t see any resemblance of such simplicity in me. Masood had those characteristics. During my last visit to Pakistan, I met him and Mushir in their office, that’s when I last saw him. Sometimes his love and intensity of friendship towards me used to make me uncomfortable, as it kept me thinking that I am not returning the same. He called me just before Ramzan to talk about the marriage proposal of her daughter. Since Naheed started her cooking channel on YouTube, Masood used to comment and call her to let her know how his dishes turned out when he tried her recipies. Those comments are now dear to me. I not only lost a sincere friend but a role model of humbleness. (Muhammad Sohail Ahmed)

I have the honor of having him as a classmate twice: one at NED and other at IBA…He was truly a gentleman- humble, smiling and always ready to help…I recall cutting jokes during TE industrial tour and also at IBA which sometimes were borderline he never took them personally and always enjoyed…May ALLAH grant him a mughfirah, a highest place in Jannah and sabr to his family. I know Masood since College time. He went to Adamjee Scidnce college and I went to Dehli college. Very humble and simple individual. We never knew he was in DAP when we were in PHILIPS.

Today NED SCHOLARS lost their most compassionate and sincere supporter. Safdar Ali Khan, was one of the cofounders of NED SCHOLARS. He was the force behind the organization in Pakistan. A true academician and a dedicated teacher. His students (Safdarians) were blessed that they witness an angel on earth, and be in the company of a great, loving, and caring teacher.
They say friends are the family we choose. I was honored for being chosen by Safdar as a friend. It was the greatest moment of my life and today when he is not with us, it was the worst moment of my life.
Safdar, I am better for knowing you, better for loving you, better for having met you.
My life was blessed through your friendship, Safdar. May you find blessings in the next life, my dear friend. And may Allah give you the place close to the Prophet (PBUH) in heaven. Dr. Sohail 5/6/21

Safdar – will see you at “Karachi Cantt.”

It was around 39 years ago, in August 1982, I was not very keen to go on our upcoming Mechanical Engineering Industrial Tour. On the morning the tour was to start, Safdar along with Hassan Masud came to my house and asked me to come along. He was so convincing that I could not say no, so I packed in few hours and left in that evening. Needless to say that it was a most memorable trip of my life. We thoroughly enjoyed the carefree time.

During the last part of our trip we were on our way to Quetta and the train stopped at Lahore station. We were wondering around at the station and I saw that Safdar was packing his bags in a hurry (Asadullah and Hassan Masud may remember this). I asked what was he doing and he told me that the train on the adjacent platform was going to Karachi so he was on his way home. I asked him about the remaining part of the trip that he convinced me to come along and he said “Arshad, yaar mujhae jana hay. Leekan Karachi cantt pay melay gayn kuch dinno mey” (I have to go but I will see you at Karachi Cantt in few days). True to his words, when we arrived back at Karachi Cantt, at the end our tour, he was there to welcome us.

So my friends, we are all on this last leg of our “Industrial Tour” together . Safdar had left us for “Karachi” because he had to go but inshallah, like last time he will be at “Karachi Cantt” to welcome us. May Allah (SWT) bless Safdar and all those friends who left us early for “Karachi”. Arshad Malik.

Definitely he was amongst the chosen ones. He will be remembered not only by his friends and colleagues but by all individuals who were impacted by his tutoring and because of that the changes that he brought to those individuals lives which ultimately uplifted the overall family Iives of those individuals .
So his efforts made and will continue to make community upliftment and all these positivity will be credited to his account and definitely he will be destined a very glorified place in Jannat.

Our batch has been fortunate that we had and have beacons of lights amongst us..

I just read the very sad and shocking news of Safdar passing away. Safdar was one of my closest friends at NED. We spent a lot of good time together. I used to live at 10 minutes walk from his place. We even walked from his home to NED many times. He was very innovative with his coaching center he was very proud of it. I saw him last in March 2016 just before his cancer diagnosis there was no sign of any illness at that time.

He passed away in Ramadan. May Allah send him straight to haven without any hisab kitab. May Allah give sabr to his family. Hasan Masoud.

Words are so meaningless at this time. We know it is a hard time for the family and friends. I m sure we shall face this difficult time how Safdar did facd his illness. I shall always remember his laughters and straight forward thinking and kindness.
Safdar and other friends who left us will remain alive in our prayers.

I talked to him few of months ago and never thought the his cancer will spread like a wild fire and he will leave us in such a hurry. He was in great spirits and talked to me in his usual self.
